Amman Opera Festival Presents: THE FUNDRAISER

Third and last performace of the beloved opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi at the Amman Opera Festival.

“Aida” is set in ancient Egypt. The Ethiopian princess Aida is enslaved in Egypt, where she and the Egyptian military commander Radamès fall in love. However, Radamès is betrothed to the Pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris, who suspects their affair.

When Ethiopia invades, Radamès leads Egypt’s army to victory. As a reward, he’s promised Amneris’s hand in marriage. Torn between love and duty, Radamès inadvertently reveals military secrets to Aida and her father. He’s sentenced to death for treason.

Radamès is entombed alive. Aida secretly joins him, choosing to die together. Above, a heartbroken Amneris prays for their peace.
