Riccardo Gatto, born in Venice, is considered one of the most talented tenors of his generation, praised for his “effortless legato” and his singing which is both “virile and sensitive”. His career is focused equally on operatic and concert repertoire, encompassing a wide range of musical styles.
After his studies at Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice, he improved with Sherman Lowe, Antonio Lemmo and the legendary tenor KS Giacomo Aragall in Barcelona and Vienna.
Finalist on some important international competitions as Concorso Spiros Argiris (2011), Concorso Ottavio Ziino (2013) and Toti dal Monte in Treviso (2014), he has been prize winner at Concorso Silvano Pagliuca (2010), Concorso Martinelli-Pertile (2011) and, most recently, at Premio Etta Limiti (2014) and Concorso Riccardo Zandonai (2014).
He began quickly his career singing Ferrando in Così fan tutte in Padova conducted by Claudio Desderi, Cambiale di matrimonio in Udine, Gianni Schicchi in Trento and made his debut as Count of Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Sarzana Opera Festival, Bassano Opera Festival, Vicenza, Amsterdam and other important international stages.
Over the last years he has interpreted Nemorino in Elisir d’amore at Teatro Rendano di Cosenza, Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia by Paisiello in Sulmona and Manfredo in Vespri Siciliani at Reggio Emilia, Modena and Piacenza in the famous production directed by Davide Livermore. In 2014 he sang the role of Oronte in Alcina in Tel Aviv, directed by Niv Hoffman and Yishai Steckler, Così fan tutte at Pafos Aphrodite Festival in Cyprus, Lucia di Lammermoor at Donizetti Festival in Bergamo and at Teatro Comunale di Treviso next to Jessica Pratt. Recently he has been Nemorino in Elisir d’Amore at Teatro della Fortuna di Fano, the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz at Bassano Opera Festival and Cassio in Otello by Verdi in several theaters of Southern France. He has sung as soloist tenor in Messa da Requiem by Verdi in Hamburg, the role of the Duke in Rigoletto in Russia and has appeared as guest at Gala Concert at Latvian National State Opera opposite soprano Maija Kovalevska.
He has lately been Nemorino in Elisir d’Amore in Sweden at Opera på Skäret and he debuted as Roméo in Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod in São Paulo, Brazil and Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca with the Venice Conservatory Orchestra.
In 2022 he sang again Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca at Opera Pienza Festival and Alfredo Germont in La Traviata at Amman Opera Festival in the presence of the Princess of Jordan.
He has sung under the baton of Nello Santi, Stefano Ranzani, Jordi Bernacer, Walter Attanasi, Giampaolo Bisanti and has been directed, among others, by Maria Francesca Siciliani, Davide Livermore, Caterina Panti Liberovici and Diana Kienast.
